    Good morning,
Thank you spinderella for your support! And sorcha, there is actually a basis for contract in FAQ in trusted housesitters, at 'Is there a house sitting assignment form we can use?'. The site says that it is not a legal document but can be used as a basis for one. I think it is quite thorough and good, actually. And once both parties sign it and there are all the dates etc, it becomes legal and binds both parties (I study law on the side of working).

And actually, I do have an advertisement in Quoka and eBay ;) I hope this tells you that I'm totally devoted to this thing.

And, the idea is to save money on both parties. This is why I'm not going to a hostel or renting a house. There are actually people who are going on holiday and for some reason or another their friends and relatives can't help out at looking after their dogs. My offer is aimed at these kind of people. My intention is to be of help, not a nuisance for anyone.

    Let's have a good-one, shall we!?

Thank you sorcha so much for the information about haushueter.org! And the rest of you for supporting/clarifying comments. I do understand completely that this idea of dog sitting and letting a stranger in your home may sound weird at first. But I believe also that this type of activity will be more and more common in the future. And sorcha, you picked up the very problem I'm dealing with here. That is, there is no official site that would bring the home owners and sitters together in Berlin and that I could register to. It would be more secure to me as well (!!).

However, I have traveled before and I have learned to stay away from trouble (one year in the U.S. for example). I do not take uncontrollable risks. Let's say that somebody offers to have me as a dog sitter. In this case I would contact this person by phone. And/Or, if possible, I would ask them to register to Trusted Housesitters. For home owners there is a free 5 months' trial (by the way:). I understand that on this site they have a contract that is filled between both parties involved. That increases the amount of security. Moreover, the home owners get to give a grade to the home sitter after the assignment. At least I want to have five stars (!!).

About my trustworthyness, what can I say? Well, I have worked for the local police in 2006 and before taking on that job they made a security check on me. Which, of course, was clear (I wouldn't have gotten the job, if it wasn't). I can send a copy of the testimonial if needed. It is in Finnish but there are all the logos and so on. I also made an internship for the National Bureau of Investigation (it is the FBI of Finland) to help to solve economic crime. So, I tend to consider myself more of a good guy, rather than bad.

And for those who want to find me in Trusted Housesitters pls go to trustedhousesitters -> Find a House sitter. There you will find searh boxes, one of them saying 'current location'. Choose 'Finland' -> Refine search. There you will find four listings, one of which is mine.

So, how does this sound? Do you still think I'm weird ;) ?

Ok, now I get what's wrong! I'm sorry, I didn't explain this idea clearly enough. It seems that you are not familiar with this dog sitting thing. Please visit http://www.trustedhousesitters.com to get the idea. I am also listed there (costs 30 $/3 months). The problem there is that most of the assignments are in United Kingdom. I wouldn't mind going there either, but the olympics are going on in London and the traffic and public transportation are jammed during these days. And going to other parts of the U.K. would require too much traveling (I need to sit on a train for 5 hours only to get to Helsinki).

So, the basic idea of the house sitting thing is that while the dog owners are on holiday the dog sitter comes to live in their home with the pet. The dog sitter takes care of the dog and keeps him/her company. This way the dog owners can go on holiday without having to worry about how their dog and home are doing. The dog sitter can also take care of plants and other small tasks that are agreed on.

I hope this helps to clarify things. And thank you to all of you that asked these questions(!!). This could really be a good thing to all of us.

Yehaa, I got answers, thank you! Special thanks to Pipalong, who told that this is not possibly the best place to look for an assignment. Can you please tell me on which site I'd have better luck?

Nevertheless, surely the dog owners talk to each other about their problems regarding finding proper 'Hundezitters', oder? I am only making this very easy. And consider the amount of money they save not having to put the dog(s) to a 'Hundehotel'. And it is much less stressful to the dog as well to be able to stay at home. This is my purpose here. And, like I said, i AM 200 % trustworthy and also a very responsible person. So I have no intention of stealing anybody's dogs here. I promise I will even bring Finnish dog treats with me  .

But seriously, we all get the positive sides out of this. Isn't it wunderbar!

    Petra

    Hello!
I'm writing to see if I can find a dogsitting assignment in Berlin through this site. My name is Petra and I live in Finland. I would like to combine my yearning for both dogs and traveling at the same time. I love dogs but cannot own one due to limited hours at home during working weeks. Berlin I would like to visit, because it is one of the biggest cities in Germany and I haven't visited it before. I did have my fourth birthday in Hamburg, though  .

I have experience in many dog breeds: Grosser Munsterländer, Afghan hounds, Golden Retriever, Labrador and Cavalier King Charles spaniel, to mention a few. I am 200 % trustworthy and I don't smoke. My occupation is civil servant (M.Sci; B.A.) and I work with issues regarding corporate finance.

I am available during 29 July - 12 Aug. Please give me a reply if our needs meet(!!). And pls, make the word go around if you know someone in Berlin who needs a dog sitter

    Many thanks,

    Petra
